Our Translators

Located around the world, our translators contribute essential linguistic, cultural and subject matter expertise to the localization process. It is their job to ensure that the translation conforms fully to the expectations of the target audience, not only in terms of accuracy, but also in terms of the right 'look and feel' of the product.

SDL is fully committed to creating the strongest possible language team and we employ over 700 full-time translation specialists in our global Translation Department. All our translators are native speakers and educated to degree level. On top of this, our recruitment process is extremely rigorous, designed to identify only the right people with the right skills for our team. The same high validation standards are also applied to all our freelance translators, to ensure that only the most qualified professionals work on our projects.

Our Skills

Quality and methodology are key words for our translators. They combine language skills and subject matter expertise to produce translations of the highest accuracy and quality. As a further guarantee of quality, all our work is carried out in accordance with SDL’s stringent linguistic QA processes which are designed to ensure that every translation is fully validated before hand-off to our customers. Our translators receive regular training on our linguistic procedures, to ensure that they approach all their tasks in the most effective manner. These reflexes are sharpened through our system of continuous development, whereby we make sure that all translators in the team receive regular feedback on the quality of their work.

It is paramount for us to be able to adapt quickly to the new technologies and sectors into which our customers are moving. In SDL, our translators are thoroughly familiar with all the tools of the trade required for up-to-the-minute translation solutions.

The primary localization tools we use are:
  • SDL Trados for Translation Memory
  • SDL MultiTerm for terminology management
  • SDL PhraseFinder for term extraction
  • SDL Passolo for localizing Windows user interfaces
  • SDL Translation Management System for managing multilingual content

All these tools are developed internally by SDL, with direct input from our own translators to ensure we understand exactly what translation professionals need to do their work accurately and efficiently. Our translators are also adept at using any other tools specified by our customers.

From technical localization requiring a high level of specialist knowledge to transcreation for marketing that demands a more spontaneous and creative approach, our translation team has the experience, scale and flexibility to meet all of today's linguistic requirements and challenges.
