New software brings added efficiency to terminology management and translation projects

SDL International, the world’s leading provider of translation services and technology solutions, announced today the immediate availability of SDLPhraseFinder™ 2005 for improving the speed and accuracy of terminology extraction.

Poor control of terminology can damage a company’s brand, impact customer support and customer satisfaction levels, and introduce risk into statutory compliance processes across global markets. SDLPhraseFinder 2005 helps businesses address these issues by quickly and effectively identifying the terminology being used within the organization. If a translation memory is provided between supported languages, SDLPhraseFinder 2005 will perform bilingual terminology extraction and provide suggested translations for the terms.

With rapid extraction of terms in multiple languages, organizations can quickly gain control of corporate terminology. Localization processes become more efficient, with less time spent on translation. Review and re-work times are also reduced because the quality of translation is improved. These factors have a significant impact on translation costs and time to market.

Aaron Schliem, Director of Operations at Glyph Language Services, has already seen significant benefits from SDL’s innovative approach to terminology extraction: “Glyph’s Terminology Managers have been able to greatly increase the speed and accuracy of terminology identification and to focus their efforts on terminology research.”

“Our tests show that the powerful linguistic algorithms in SDLPhraseFinder 2005 significantly outperform other methods, such as statistically-based terminology extraction,” commented Keith Mills, Chief Technical Officer at SDL International. “Using its understanding of the structure of different languages, SDLPhraseFinder 2005 greatly speeds up the process of building a comprehensive terminology repository, which can improve the quality and consistency of all business content.”

SDLPhraseFinder 2005 is patent-pending technology developed for the SDL Knowledge-based Translation System™ that has already been deployed for customers such as CNH, Best Western and Tweddle Litho. It supports terminology extraction from Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, and provides direct integration with SDLTermBase Online for easier management of a terminology repository. All customers who purchased the monolingual SDLTermFinder product receive a free upgrade to SDLPhraseFinder 2005.
